Salone del Mobile in Milan: what to expect from this great event?

“Building The (Im)possible” is the theme of the 2023 edition

A new edition of the Salone del Mobile of Milan starts today! Since 1961, the event has been a meeting point for designers, architects, manufacturers, retailers and passionate about furniture design from all over the world. There are more than six decades presenting trends and innovations in the segment. 

And the unanswered question is: what does “Building The (Im)possible” mean?

The 2023 theme invites visitors and exhibitors to think together about the future of design schools and universities. With inspirations in nature and the search for sustainability, mainly in the use of raw materials, the event brings up for debate the trends that will dictate the work of the next professionals, who are currently in training. In this way, “Building The (Im)possible” is about turning previously impossible goals into real strategies for transforming the future of design.

To give you a little spoiler about the next edition, check out the creative approach of Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, aka Draga & Aurel, who will be featured at the event in 2023. 

The couple are recognized worldwide for their original and experimental methods, combined with an artistic approach to materials and composition. They also carry a strong curriculum, with important partnerships with companies in the furniture sector, such as Baxter, Wall&Decò, Gallotti&Radice, Galleria Nilufar and Rossana Orlandi. 

In an interview with the Salone del Mobile Milano team, the artists said that the exhibition will present new pieces in scenic installations, with an emphasis on light and color.

“Transparency, color, material and a lot of enthusiasm. Through our work we want to convey playfulness, relaxation and beauty. In addition, our pieces are often born quite naturally, combining materials, mixing colors, playing with shapes and thicknesses, sometimes accepting (and embracing) the unexpected”, comments the duo of designers about their inspirations.
